Billy Bob | The Cat

Funnily enough I’m actually allergic to cats, even though I do love them the watering eyes and sneezing alone has been enough to secure my position as a dog person. As long as I don’t go smooshing my face against them however I can usually avoid the Telfast… I am yet to test Telfast’s ‘smoosh face on cat campaign’

vancouver photog - That was sweet!! :)

Lyndall + Josh | Sneak Peek | Wedding Photographers Sydney

My second photographer Rachael and I had the pleasure of photographing the lovely Lyndall and Josh this week. They took us to an amazing part of the Blue Mountains we had never been to before, it was rather awesome! Here are some kind words Lyndall sent me after the shoot.  ”Hey Samuel, Thanks so much for taking the time out today and allowing us the opportunity to shoot with you guys! We really enjoyed ourselves, had a lot of fun and are really impressed with the way the two of you carried out this afternoon. Can’t wait to see the photos…Much thanks again…”

Sydney Wedding Photographer – Benjamin & Sarah Sneak Peek

Ok ok, these shots aren’t exactly your typical wedding photographs for a number of reasons, one of which being that they are shot at night using available light from a nearby street lamp. But hell, we thought we may as well make use of the opportunity to do something different! Shooting at night gives really rich colours as the orange hue of the street light mixes with the cool blue shade of night. Such conditions provide many a challenge for both the photographer and subject. These photographs were shot on a 45mm Tilt/Shift lens with a slow shutter speed on a tripod. Let me tell you, focusing the 45 TS-E is unwieldy at the best of times… doing it at night requires intervention from God, Buddha, Allah and Vishnu! For all you photo nerds out there, here is a little trick I use to focus when it’s dark. Have the subject hold a small light source such as a torch… or in this case an Iphone next to their face (on the same plane of focus). Said light source should be facing the camera, thus providing a small but bright point light source on the same plane you want in focus. Now simply focus on this and bingo! Just make sure the subject and camera position stay the same and repeat as necessary.

Lee Duguid - I also find a high powered mag light pointed directly at the talents face works well both to blind them and to find focus!

Get series.

Cheers

pepefaraldo - very interesting images!!!

manny - This photographer really know how to work with the lighting. I thought too much light would not make the color pop, but in these case it works well. Specially if you have a lot of white walls.

Kellee - Very fun shot! Thanks for the tips too!!

Sydney Wedding Photographer – Eddie & Nora

Photographing the lovely Eddie & Nora was lots of fun… and being a fan of sushi how could I not enjoy a wedding where a sushi platter was served for lunch! Although a small scale affair it was a really beautiful day focused on the family and the sushi… I mean love sushi… damn! I mean Love!

We started at the couples Pyrmont apartment, when I say couple I mean the kitty cats, Tiger and Moshi… I’m sure fellow cat owners know how it is… lets take a moment to thank the cats for allowing us into there aparment. Tiger features heavily in the photographs, being inquisitive he was quick to check out the action, complete with an obligatory sniff of all foreign objects including the wedding dress, rings and our cameras. Moshi on the other hand spent a large portion of the day hiding behind the washing machine, a scaredy cat indeed!

After getting ready Eddie’s mother prepared some tea for a traditional ceremony welcoming Nora into their family. We followed this with the aforementioned sushi and made friends with organic fruit Eddie’s brother had brought over from his mothers garden (featured in photos).

With content stomachs we snapped a few quick family portraits the jumped into Eddie’s “cosy” sports car to head to the registry. A wedding day without hiccups surely isn’t a wedding day and true to form Nora’s wedding dress managed to get well and truly caught in the car seat! With the help of a torch and some gentle affirmation eddie finally got the dress unstuck, things weren’t looking good for a little while!

Congrats guys.

Ps. In a completely unrelated and unplanned act of fate I am having sushi for dinner tonight…
